Strategic Opportunity Analyst at Akero Therapeutics

Summary: The Strategic Opportunity Analyst will evaluate potential preclinical and clinical acquisition targets and development opportunities for Akero. This role will be a 12-month, full-time contract position supporting Akero’s diligence efforts, and is ideal for a research or clinical fellow looking to transition to a strategic role in industry. The analyst will be based out of our office in South San Francisco and will report to the Chief Scientific Officer.
Responsibilities
- Review scientific and clinical literature
- Evaluate IP and commercial landscapes
- Summarize medical need and opportunity within NASH
- Design and progress key program-specific tasks
- Synthesize and communicate key learnings and informed opinions to team
- Balance opportunity presented with resources needed and available
- Gain exposure to the biotech industry
Qualifications
- MD and/or PhD in life sciences; experience in translational or clinical research preferred
- Ability to form lateral associations to generate novel insights
- Agile learner able to quickly move between areas of biology and medicine outside of core expertise
- Innovative and creative researcher, relying on multiple sources for material
- Effective communicator of biomedical science, concepts to diverse audiences
- Independent, self-starter able to perform and thrive with minimal oversight
- Credible as a scientist with external stakeholders (biomedical researchers, CRO scientists, diverse project managers)
- Problem solver, able to balance cost to solve vs. impact of solution on core business goals
- Strong emotional intelligence with effective interpersonal and networking skills
- Able to add value to the team-oriented atmosphere through personal energy, passion and time management
- Based in, or able to re-locate to, the San Francisco Bay area
