Strategic Opportunity Analyst at Akero Therapeutics

Summary: The Strategic Opportunity Analyst will evaluate potential preclinical and clinical acquisition targets and development opportunities for Akero. This role will be a 12-month, full-time contract position supporting Akero’s diligence efforts, and is ideal for a research or clinical fellow looking to transition to a strategic role in industry. The analyst will be based out of our office in South San Francisco and will report to the Chief Scientific Officer.


  • Review scientific and clinical literature
  • Evaluate IP and commercial landscapes
  • Summarize medical need and opportunity within NASH
  • Design and progress key program-specific tasks
  • Synthesize and communicate key learnings and informed opinions to team
  • Balance opportunity presented with resources needed and available
  • Gain exposure to the biotech industry


  • MD and/or PhD in life sciences; experience in translational or clinical research preferred
  • Ability to form lateral associations to generate novel insights
  • Agile learner able to quickly move between areas of biology and medicine outside of core expertise
  • Innovative and creative researcher, relying on multiple sources for material
  • Effective communicator of biomedical science, concepts to diverse audiences
  • Independent, self-starter able to perform and thrive with minimal oversight
  • Credible as a scientist with external stakeholders (biomedical researchers, CRO scientists, diverse project managers)
  • Problem solver, able to balance cost to solve vs. impact of solution on core business goals
