San Diego, CA, US

Inception Therapeutics is seeking a creative, motivated and experienced Scientist/Sr. Scientist to join the Biologics team in San Diego, California.  This position will be key to the building of a novel biologics portfolio, focused on multiple innovative biotherapeutics platforms.  Responsibilities will include analysis of protein-protein or ligand-protein binding interactions, analysis of preparation purity and identity, and the evaluation of lead molecule developability.  Expertise in protein chromatography, protein concentration and formulation, and cutting-edge protein analytical techniques will be key to this position.  The candidate will be highly proficient in the design of optimal processes that are consistent with team material needs for quantity (milligram to gram scale) and purity.

Job Description:

  • Participate in the discovery of novel biotherapeutics, with a close connection to project background and rationale
  • Design and perform binding experiments for the assessment of biotherapeutics lead and protein reagent activity
  • Design and perform experiments for the assessment of biotherapeutics lead developability
  • Perform physicochemical assessments of biomolecule preparations for purity and stability
  • Present results regularly at team meetings
  • Perform diligent and timely notekeeping and work process tracking

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD and postdoctoral studies in a Biochemistry, Biophysics, and/or Chemistry-related discipline, ideally focused on protein structure and function, and 0 – 2 years industry experience
  • A solid understanding of the principles behind protein binding analysis, with a focus on methods for determining binding affinities, kinetics, and thermodynamics
  • A strong track record of original research, including peer-reviewed publications and/or patent literature
  • Strong expertise in design, execution, and troubleshooting of SPR-based and plate-based binding assays
  • A solid understanding of the principles behind physicochemical properties of proteins and other biomolecules
  • Technical experience in methods of protein analytics, including SDS-PAGE/cGE, analytical SEC, multi-angle light scattering, and charge distribution analysis (cation exchange or electrophoresis)
  • Experience with data analysis and presentation software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The individual should be scientifically creative and driven by a willingness to embrace innovation within drug discovery and an eagerness to challenge and meet aggressive timelines
  • The ability to work closely with other group members within teams is essential

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with antibody and biotherapeutic purification and characterization, and a working knowledge of various biotherapeutic modalities
  • An understanding of the principals and best practices behind biotherapeutic developability would be highly desirable
